Very Smoke grey

Postby Baz » Mon Apr 27, 2009 4:00 pm

When presented with the proposed colour for my 1977, wife and 17yo daughter said mmmmm, umm, er, luvly dad !!
I felt a little dejected and bravely went ahead anyway. Car came back last nite amid howls of delight from family and "gee dad it looks fabulous" etc. The smoke grey metallic is very classy and has a gorgeous green tinge in certain light. The people who painted it had the same reservations before painting, now claim it is one of the nicest colours they have used. Can't wait to get all the bits on. Still a long way to go, but very thankful for this forum.

Grigio Fumo Met. is a favorite on this site. We all appreciate the color subtleties. Cant wait for pictures.

According to my PPG paint guide it should be 899 but let's see if someone actually has the number off the id plate.

Baz,

I saw a old 70's Holden Stateman (HQ era) the other day and I reckon the colour is identical to our Fiat Grigio Fumo Met.

You need to drive over to Goulburn on the 16th of May, to the Club day.

Thanks, I will check it out. Not that I'm ready for the paint booth any time soon but I'm always looking for improvements. My current color is "prune" paint code 198 and I think the parts car might be this color grey which is quite nice.

It looks like the color was first introduced in 1979. I've always like the understated elegance of that color, especially with a beige interior.

Adrians, providing Goulburn is on the 16th of may 2010, I should be there....the assembly is slower that I thought, with bolts and screws having to be cleaned, drive shaft assembled, (conversion to 5 speed) and all the little bits and pieces that need to be gussied up. As previously reported, I purchased side reflector housings (plastic chrome) from Bruce's would not fit, so more delay...god knows what else will cause more delays. But as mdrburchette has stated, it is going to look terrific. The colour seems to have more green in it than I have seen, but mixed exactly to the code, and with the cream upholstery.....wow.

MY first Spider was smoke gray (fumo grigio or whatever). It was a 79. I always wondered how a green color got labeled gray!

Baz,

In that case you need to plan for 15th -17th January 2010, Goulburn - The Fiat Nationals.
