New carb diaphram leaking

Postby zachmac » Sun Oct 01, 2017 4:11 pm

Just got back from a spirited drive and had a way too strong gasoline smell. Checked and found gas pouring out of the accelerator pump diaphram and sure enough once I took it out it is separated. Very strange in that it actually looks like a portion of the rubber deteriorated like it was somehow non-gasoline resistant. Has anyone else seen this? Maybe ethanol related?

It's a cheap replacement part (about $12) but it is frustrating on a brand new card with less than 100 miles of run time. Not to mention I'm off the road until I get a new one. I'll call the vendor tomorrow and see if they'll send me a replacement. Not the money but the fact it failed so soon that irks me.

EMPI 32/36 DFEV (Weber knockoff). Not sure who is making them?

Unfortunately the knock-offs do not always use ethanol resistant parts. Even many of the NOS OEM factory items won't stand up to ethanol.

Sounds like you bought it new. Bought from a vendor or individual? If a vendor, I'd be on the phone with him about a replacement.
