Courtesy Light

Postby ryandavis » Thu Jul 27, 2017 2:13 am

I purchased this courtesy light: https://autoricambi.us/products/interio ... ght-196882.

I am trying to determine why this one has 3 connections and my original i THINK one only has 2. The problem is it was broken adn about 1/4 was missing, so maybe there was a 3rd connection? Secondly there are 2 black/red wires and one black/purple wire so now I am trying to map which one doesn't go to the courtesy light assuming I am correct that there are only 2 connections.

Finally, I need a wiring for dummies as I don't can't seem to trace this light.

There should be three wires and a switch. One wire is hot all the time (un-switched) and the other two are paths to ground. The first path to ground is completed by either door jamb switch when the doors are open and open (the electrical path to ground) when both doors are closed. The second is a completed path to ground at all times BUT is only in the path through the bulb when the switch is in the "on" position versus being in the normal "actuated by the doors" position.

Excellent wiring diagrams for your 81 can be found here: http://fiat.artigue.com/wp-content/uplo ... ider_C.pdf The courtesy light is shown on sheet 10. Red / black wire should be the hot lead, black / purple the door jamb switches, and black the other ground.
