Yep it happened...1st tow in 15 years.
Driving up around the cottage and had trouble getting out of 3rd gear. Tried to get into other gears (except 4th of course) and terrible grinding. Clutch felt OK but...Coasted into the local bank parking lot and parked her. Had my cottage buddy pick me up (thankfully there is cell phone service at the bank) and take me back to the cottage to get my jeep, pick up the new clutch Canadan (my Fiat mechanic) gave me a few years ago (how did he know?) and call Canadian Tire road side assist. (Flat bed tow up to 250kms)
Pulled into Calrsbad Springs at 2:00 and he had the trany/clutch out by 4:00, with no hoist. Probably only took a half hour once the car was lifted and the right tools were ready.
Not too bad, the clutch still had 2 out of 6 springs
New clutch ready to go in.
Back to Carlsbad today to check out/fix the trany. Yeh will have a 4th gear!
Yes I am blessed to have a Canadan!

He's amazing quick! Can i tie him up and bring him to FFO with me?
Super great guy!
Good luck on the progress! It looks like he'll have you back on the road in no time.

Put lotsa beers in the trunk and he might just jump in!
Going to get my NOS Abarth exhaust and see if he will install it, while the exhaust is off.
I am curious to see what it will sound like compared to the current Ansa.

Re: Spider towed 1st time in 15 years - blown clutch
Shortly after I purchased my Spider in 2003 the same thing happened to me. The clutch disk springs broke and the disk sort of came apart. The car had been sitting for some time previous and I had used an impact gun to remove to remove crank nut just prior to the clutch failure. I have wondered if the pounding from the impact gun contributed to the failure. I had locked the flywheel to the bell housing to get the nut loose.
