steering wobbly

Postby DaveMarcotte » Sun Apr 16, 2017 2:32 pm

So after engine rebuild, carb tuning (jets etc..) last year. Things are running nicely. Only thing is I get a woble in the steering starting at about 50 -55mph. Any ideas to get me lookiing in the right direction?

Are the tires properly balanced? (When was the last time they were balanced?) First place I'd start.

check your lug bolts. After that, A-arm ball joints and steering linkage.

When I was in college I was riding with my roommate in his 124 Sport Coupe, and it experienced a severe wobble at highway speed. We were headed from Laramie to Fort Collins to trade the 124 for a new X-19 anyway, so there wasn't a lot of interest in dealing with the problem.

The wobble went away quickly, and so we (foolishly) continued driving. About thirty miles further down the road, the wobble returned even more violently. Within a few seconds, the front right wheel popped off and we went sliding off the shoulder, unharmed but chagrined for being so naive.

So I'd say to check those lug bolts (like AZRUSS suggests) **before** driving to the front end shop.
