Opened the trunk!!

Postby Jrscobra » Mon Mar 13, 2017 12:26 pm

So, my new 72 Fiat Spider 124 did not come with keys. The previous owner told me he did not have a key ever to the trunk and it had never been opened since he bought it in 2004!!!!

So, I get the trunk opened.

I don't think anyone has ever put anything in this trunk. The appearance of this compartment is "as is" from the day it was manufactured! I am shocked at how nice it is.

The only thing in the trunk that was not factory was the Haynes Repair Manual and a screwdriver!.
Toolkit! Complete in original position
jack! original condition and position!

Lifted the car on ramps to review. Underbody looks fantastic!
I do have a little rust in the passenger side floorboard and on the seat rails. I plan on removing and inspecting in the next few days.
I am excited about this car!
Cant wait to have it on street !!!

I had to share! Thanks for reading!
Jaime

Awesome! Trunk time capsule. Curious if you would be open to taking and posting some pics, especially of the jack. I just put mine in after some refurbishment, and couldn't figure out how to place it so that the flat plate on the bottom did not rub up against the panels.

Neat! Tool kits with an intact case are hard to find. The plastic cases break very easily.

As soon as the rain stops and temps creep up, I will take some pics. Poor weather for the next few days will keep me inside. Cold weather doesn't agree with my uncle Arthr.

Looks great, excellent condition!

Here is a jack (not my car), installed per the manual diagram, but I would never travel with it like this, it will bang around and damage the fender. I install mine for shows, etc. but that is it.

Here is what the Owner's Manual says: It is wacky.

Photobucket is completely broken, so I can only post the links here, it will be a massive effort to move all my pics off of their terrible web site.

Thanks for posting the photos! Mine was mounted like Pete's, so I'm scratching my head because I agree, it would kill my fender to have it bouncing around in there...

I don't think all years are mounted the same.

Jaime,

What did you do to get the trunk open with no key available?

A very thin flat screwdriver. Pushed in, turned counter clockwise, when it stopped turning, I pushed down on the trunk lid and twisted again. Boom. It popped open.
