Anybody else ready for a get-together?

Postby rlux4 » Wed Aug 20, 2008 11:55 pm

How much interest would there be in a get-together up in the Santa Clarita area? I know most of the gang are south of this area, but there's some gorgeous roads around there. If it's not too far, we could end up at my place for a BBQ afterwards in Lancaster. Potato salad included, of course.

We're four so far. Where is everybody?
Now, when to schedule it? We probably need time for people to respond and line things up, so, being as next weekend is Labor Day (as pointed out to me by Ace) two weeks from now seems practical. I'm thinking of meeting in Pasadena, go up over Angeles Crest to Angeles Forest and down to Acton. Over to the Vasquez Rocks for a stop and photo op. Then over and up either Boquet Canyon or Francisquito to the Antelope Valley and the BBQ at my place. Weather would be a factor, hopefully it will be a little cooler in a couple of weeks. If not, are there any other location suggestions?

cooler in Sept? ha ha ha! Just don't plan it during the heat of the day. Perhaps an evening beach trip would be better since it's well over 100 here

That's what I'm thinking, Mark. I want to have a get together, but I'm not a masochist, and over 100° is a little on the warm side. So we just have to put our heads together and come up with a area/run that's doable this time of year. Maybe wait for spring like Ace suggested for the run up here, because of the weather and the canyons are prettier then.
Do you mean late afternoon when you say evening beach run?
All suggestions are welcome.

Here it is, Tuesday evening and so far we've heard from four people. Maybe this coming weekend is too soon to schedule?
Weather-wise it's supposed to be 105 this Saturday, but it will only feel like a mere 100°. Even at that comfortable temperature it may be a bit too much for all you flatlanders. I'm certainly up for a beach cruise, let's hear from some pipples.

Well, Ron -- we can always cook up something here at our place after a drive up or down the coast. . . . or, stop at a restaurant somewhere along the coast route. You can count on it being cool along the coast. Then there are some neat curvy roads over mountain ridges over to Lake Casitas, and back to the coast. I've got two kayaks that are itching to get in the ocean this weekend. If anyone wants to venture out here, there's a variety of things to do while enjoying the break from the heat.

That sounds great. Your house is a little closer to the coast than mine. And seeing as you have a set, I wouldn't have to bring the Bocci Balls. I will bring potato salad though.
