Thats excellent Don.

I loved my 1984 SE fiero for its comfort looks and ability to fit 5 drunken teenagers on the way to the party spot every friday and saturday night in the late 90's - and what a hotbox! It was slow, handled like crap and the old "iron duke" engine fails @ 100rpm past the 5500 rpm rev limiter (pistons become porous and rings break  )

two of my best friends had 5.0's, boy i made fun of them but ultimately they were a lot of fun

I've owned #'s 1, 2 & 4 !!

I worked at a Pontiac dealer in the late 80's, and I remember watching the progression of the Fiero between '84 and '88. The article is spot-on, too. Just when they got it right..... shut-down. Allthough I seem to remember some pressure from Nader on that one, 'cuz we always compared it to the demise of the Corvair.

And the Fox-platform Mustang. I'm not a mustang-guy, the way some are. But I've owned 3 of them; a '67 289, a '89 GT Convert and a '98 GT. Of the three cars, only the Fox car (the '89) was what I would call a "good car". handled well, easy to modify. Competent drivetrain components. I eventually had a paxton supercharger on it that made my weekend blasts to Huntington Beach (a 14 hour drive!) lots of fun.

But of course, I keep coming "home" to the Fiat Spider. this is my 4th.
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

Wasn't the V-6 Fiero the one that caught fire frequently?

Yes by design. Marketing was debating what to call it. One camp wanted Fire-Oh-No; the other Fiery. Eventually upper management settled it by merging the names into Fiero.

Forgot to add two Fieros caught on fire at the test track before production. The rest is history :)

i had the 4 banger and it was the wiring harness catching fire on my 4 banger, too close to exhaust, had to replace the whole wiring harness! The speakers in the seats were awesome and the v-6 cars were very fast!

Funny! This is the article that got me into my 1976 Fiat Spider 124. Glad I read it! Having a blast driving and working on it.
