I look forward to seeing the results. I don't think I've seen a dyno posted on one of these engines hit the 150 mark, especially at the wheels. But it will be interesting to see. Have you considered going with an electric water pump? Mark sells them and I think they are a neat upgrade.

Update!

Head is all ready to go onto block. Got dowel pins in the mail, and head is all prepped! I will install tomorrow, but here are pictures of the head:

I see from the photo's (paint marks and scribe lines in the cam tower boxes) you have measured and indexed the cams. Do you plan on installing adjustable pulleys? Moving the FLA to 104-106 degrees from the stock 110 will really wake up that motor now that you have HC pistons. You do need to be very careful if planning on advancing the cams as piston to valve clearance changes very quickly. Finding and marking TDC of the crank is equally important.

There is about a 50/50 chance the timing teeth will line up with the crank. I will see here pretty soon, when I install tensioner, and get the belt on. If not, I will have to get adjustable pulleys. I have checked valve and piston clearences, and it all checks out. I got the head installed last night, I will be making an update post here in a few, and everything is going smoothly! Thanks for the feedback!

UPDATE!

Got the head installed last night. Made sure head and block surfaces were clean, installed the dowel pins, set the headgasket down, and set the puppy on there! Proceeded to torque the special head bolts (Photo is below), and the torque order is 1st pass: 15 ft/lbs, 2nd pass: 30 ft/lbs, 3rd pass: 90 degree turn, and final pass is another 90 degree turn. I have never heard anything like this before, but my machinist swears by it. They all torqued really well and I made sure to lightly oil them, as well as the washers when I installed. Next up is front and rear crank covers, then oil pan! Enjoy these HD pics, compliments of my dad.

Now, when you prepare to fire up the engine for the first time, make sure to check the idle mixture screws. The first time I fired one up, the screws were wide open and poured so much fuel into the cylinders that after a minute or so of idling, the rings seized from the fuel washing the oil from the bore. The engine ran OK but always had a bit too much blow by.

About 2 turns open might be a good start.

Awesome. Will do. Put the tensioner assembly on, torqued the auxillary shaft, and installed the timing belt today, and discovered i will have to purchase adjustable pulleys. Now waiting on those to come in to continue!

Describe the " a heavy duty control module". I seem to blow the stock module frequently.

If you blow CM’s frequently, try replacing the distributor rotor. There are resistors built into the rotor, and when these go bad, it shorts out the CM. Good luck!

Yes! Motor is currently in the car, running. I need the time to situp and write about the process of getting it running right. (Hours of carb tuning and jetting) as well as many other speed bumps. I am currently in Italy taking an admissions test for the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy, which i passed, meaning I will be attending in september! Anyways, when i get back i will upload pics and videos of the beast running!
