Which performance part brand is the best

Postby Croatoan11 » Thu Aug 17, 2017 5:03 am

I've got a 75 124 spider I'm in the process of restoring. I'm wanting to upgrade with mostly performance parts. Not like racing level performance but pretty much wanting as high end as possible without totally ruining the fuel economy and street drivability. I'm wondering if there would be a brand in particular that would have most of the parts I would need. Gonna be starting on suspension and electrical. Engine work will probably be one of my last priorities but having the knowledge before hand would be helpful

There isn't one brand that makes everything. Different parts come from different manufacturers and sometimes there are several different manufacturers for the same part.

If you mean one vendor, I would look at the site sponsor list. Shameless plug for us... Vick Autosports has a solid selection of basic and performance parts.

C11,

There is no single performance brand for our Fiat Spiders. All the internet suppliers of parts have high quality replacement parts and performance alternatives. Searching this forum for ideas on any given system will give you a good idea of what's available. If you're in Europe, the suppliers may be different.

The primary suppliers I have used include:
Autoricambi
Allison's Automotive
Vick Auto Sports (they have a catalog)
Midwest-Bayless

I have all their websites bookmarked and when I'm looking for something, will typically check them all before making a decision.

You can mix electrical and suspension parts from various vendors, but when it comes time to restore and modify your engine, I suggest you choose one vendor for all your engine parts. An integrated approach to engine mods ensures you will match carb to cams to ignition, etc. You don't want to be chasing jetting, cam timing and ignition timing concurrently. Each of the vendors on this list can recommend a package for your requirements/budget that should plug and play. Also one source for your questions. If you've ever encountered a PC problem where Microsoft and Adobe point fingers at each other, you know what I mean.

Here's how I do this.
I created a spreadsheet with column with vendors that I use most. Also item cost and part#.
I spend a bit of time researching prices and availability. Then when I have enough parts listed that I need per group/project and cost, and add an image. I can select from vendors and group items to hopefully lower or eliminate shipping.
I do parts inquires probably for year ahead purchase. Meaning some items I don't anticipate to purchase for a while.
When I order, I tag ordered, also received.

Cheers.

I'm a spreadsheet guy too. It's fun to go back and look at the list and how it developed over time.

I mixed and matched my engine build. The advice given is 100% correct, this will make the process a bit more difficult for you but not impossible.

I have mainly had good parts - but occasionally have had to return parts - either wrong part/wrong year etc.
Most are fantastic on returns if it is wrong - but check the websites as they are not all the same.
