Leather stitched dash cover?

Postby kayjkay » Fri Jun 09, 2017 2:37 am

Hey folks!

It's been a year since I posted, my poor '71's rolling resto had to get put on hold. Now that things have settled down a bit, I can start up and start tackling the interior, so in shopping around, I came across this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/WHITE-STITCHING-DASH-DASHBOARD-LEATHER-COVER-FITS-FIAT-124-SPIDER-CLASSIC-/391806337104?hash=item5b397a4050:g:-qcAAOSwIaFZNXEM&vxp=mtr

I dig the fact it's leather (tempted by the red stitching on black). Initially I was thinking of a dash cap instead of pulling the whole thing out, but I wasn't entirely sold on a hard plastic cover. I found this and couldn't find anyone talking about these here on the forums. Thoughts?

I've never seen that before, but it's pretty cool. I do think to install it well, you would have to pull the dash, which isn't the end of the world.

That is really cool

And I agree, you're going to have to pull the dash out.

Yeah, this is why I was intrigued but hesitant. My current dash has the normal middle crack near the vents, but also some warping near the front of the windshield. Initially thought maybe I could pull it, epoxy/glue...saaaand it down and cover it with a dash cap or the stretch vinyl route I've seen from some folks. Now second guessing myself.

Nothing's ever simple heh. I'll just have to save up a lil longer to do a dash replace. The stitched leather is a neat look though, going to keep it as part of inspiration. And it's not like there isn't a laundry list of things I need to get done. :) Thanks guys!

A leather interior would be really nice, but unless they have steamed and formed that large piece of leather to comply with all the curves, that package is going to likely contain a large piece of folded up leather, and installation would probably involve a nightmare of fitting it over an existing dash?
