What paint should I use on my FI Plenum cover. Original paint?

Keeping it sharp - paint, wax, detailing, etc.

What paint should I use on my FI Plenum cover. Original paint?

Postby Betis » Wed May 18, 2016 10:24 pm

What type of paint should I use to retouch my plenum cover from my 81 124 FI spider? What paint was used. I think my cover still has the original black rough paint.
Thanks for the help.

I don't think they (Air PlenumTop) came painted from the factory (?) but I certainly could be wrong. I think they were polished aluminum. Someone may have painted it along the way, as I have mine. It doesn't need a very high temp application paint, I used "cast aluminum" Dupli-Color rattle can (350F) and it has held up fine.

I did the Plenum, Intake Manifold, AFM, AAV, and many various bits with this. the Air box is black wrinkle rattle can, and Exhaust Manifold Shield needs to be high temp. This one was done with 600F and it still has a small bit of bubbling around the 3 mounting points.

Cam boxes done with 350F rattle can wrinkle. No problems, holding up well.
