Wow, that is actually lowered? Not bad! It looks like hacking or heating is going to be an attempt of an expert or at least someone with the right tools. I will try to get the originals for now and get the lowering springs when I can afford. The idea about the bump stops causing weight transfer is correct according to my experience. I did cut the springs and this has caused a camber difference causing a (toe in?) effect. So I would expect to hit corners like a madman only to find the first imperfection on the roadway causes the understeer to amplify. Not to mention riding on bumpstops beats the heck out of anything remotely loose. Thanks for all the advice!!

This what my car looks like after all the spring cutting. I love the looks, but I'm not sure it drives as well.

Hey, I am having a hard time getting ahold of ManoaMatt concerning his springs. How much would you sell those springs for? I am in Hawaii too so shipping things in can get a little spendy and raises prices often.

Thanks for all the details regarding cutting springs. I was able to successfully lower my 82 spider with all the guidance posted. I have had the car for 7 months but didn't get to work on it much during the winter. I am still waiting on the slip on upholstery from IAP but almost everything else is finished. thanks again

I am having trouble loading any photos. I took 1 1/2 coils in front and 2 in rear. I installed new gabriel shocks that significantly improved the ride. I may have lowered a bit too much in rear but it still rides the same and looks 100x better. I will try to upload a photo of before and after when I get home this evening. I have a photo album on my facebook of start to present but have not added new photos of the car after lowering. If interested you can search on facebook by fiat spider group or by my name Sheldon Campbell. I have probably done things to the car that some people don't like but I have had input from my 16 yr old son and 6 yr old daughter and they both love the car.

I have loaded new photos on onto my facebook. go to facebook.com search for sheldon campbell and then just find the album with the fiat photos.

A few questions. What is the color code for that paint? What size are those wheels? Can you compare the before/after ride quality?

I dont' remember the paint code, sorry. It actually came out darker than the paint code was supposed to be. The ride is just about the same but I replaced the stock shocks with new Gabriel shocks. I have a little tire rub on the front inner fender wells when turning all the way to the right or left but not bad enough for me to worry about. I am satisfied with the ride and my wife hasn't complained so it must be ok.

The paint looks very close to mine which is Ford, Forest Green Metalic (paint code: GG).

The paint was actually supposed to be a GM color (medium green metallic) which was offered on the early 90s blazers and Silverados. It is actually much darker than that.
