FWIW the new reproduction tubes are lighter than the originals. They weigh around 20 lbs bare, without the rubber or shocks.

That's why I took mine off like a lot of other people. I actually replaced mine with '69 set front and back.

Sorry but I'm not for the federal safety standards and implementing the 5 mph bumper. Big government does stupid stuff like this all the time. Private industry is responsible for making cars safer. I just removed my big tube bumpers today and replaced them with Harrington chrome bumpers. What a nice change to the styling, but I am disappointed in the new ride height. I'm at least 3/4 of inch higher in the front and back.

i replaced the US bumper by the european ones and the car looks like it should be. You have to lower the car by cuting the springs or replacing them. I remove 1 coil for the front - 1,5 the rear)

I rebuilt my suspension and used Marks springs and was super pleased with the results. Now with chrome bumpers the car is at least half an inch taller. If I could figure out how to post pictures on this site I would like to share my photos.
