Help installing fuel pump

Postby Sscottdvm » Tue Aug 01, 2017 1:20 pm

I'm going to change the fuel pump to see if it helps the hot starting problem. Have a couple of questions. I read somewhere that if you don't put the arm of the pump in correctly it could damage the engine. How does one know what is " correctly"? Second, it comes with two gaskets, I assume there are two if there is a spacer. Should I use some type of gasket sealant or just install them as is ? I'm sure these are basic questions that I should know the answers to but I'm new to this

Thanks

The lever goes on top of the auxiliary shaft. This can be annoying to do as it is actually easier to install below the shaft. Just be sure to tilt the lever upwards as you push it in the hole.

The 2 gaskets are for the pump - spacer then spacer - block. No sealant is needed, technically.

I didn't bother removing the spacer, just attached the pump to the one that was already stuck on. Used some sealant, I just shoved the arm back in and hoped for the best. There's no way I can visualize what's going on down there, it did start right up and drove fine so I hope that means it's in correctly.

Yeah it's in good then. It won't pump any fuel at all when it's in wrong.
