Hello everyone just purchased a 1980 Fiat Spider at the end of July. Already tearing into it to get it safely on the road. Love the car. Been reading the threads and happy to be part of a great Fiat community. :D

This red 1980 Fiat Spider looks to be a solid frame and body with 89k miles, automatic, carburetor, power windows and AC. Stored since 2002. Interior is in great shape. It made the 30 mile trip to the house in little over 2 hours; brakes leaking and transmission stuck in 2nd. Would welcome input into the shifting problem. I am already tackling the brakes. Thanks again for the great information on line.

Hi Gordie,

Welcome and good luck with your new Spider.

You probably know your slushbox is a GM unit so getting it serviced isn't out of the question. I thought they were only a two speed trans but what do I know?

As long as you don't have serious rust issues everything else is fixable. Do the windows actually go up and down? Do they speed up (!) when you race the motor?

Thanks for the welcome.

Not sure what is slower.... the windshield wipers or the power windows. Seems every wire has a splice, if not two. Hope to get to wiring after the brakes and get the accessories working.

Where in this sunshine are you located Gordie?
I have spare 5 speed transmissions and peddle assemblies if you would rather a manual. I'm in the sw corner near Naples.

Thanks for reaching out. I am located in Tampa near the airport. Changing this over to manual is high on my list and before I pay big bucks to have the auto overhauled, I was going to switch to 5 speed.

Right now it is up on jack stands. The brakes gave out, so this weekend is the front Brake Overhaul and change the transmission fluid.

I want to make sure there are no vacuum leaks causing the transmission to not shift from 2nd to 3rd. Looking for other things to check, suggestions needed!!

I get down to Naples from time to time, so I want to stay in touch.
